Rigby, the affectionate tabby cat, always shows a keen interest in assisting his family with taking care of the kittens they adopt.
Holly Brookhouser and her family crossed paths with Rigby the tabby cat at an Oklahoma shelter six years ago, hoping to find a companion for their cat Canon. Little did they know, Rigby would not only become a friend to Canon but also a caregiver to homeless kittens that they fostered. Holly discovered Rigby’s nurturing nature when she began fostering kittens a year after adopting him. “He showed a strong desire to help care for them,” she told Love Meow.
Rigby, the cute little furball, found his forever family with Holly at paws of Oz. One day, he paid a visit to his fosters and ended up in a cozy cuddle session with the kittens. He lovingly groomed them from head to toe and stuck by their side all day.
With many kittens in foster care missing a mom, Rigby stepped up as their surrogate parent, caring for them and filling their lives with love. He made sure to give extra attention to the singletons, wrapping his arms around them as they drifted off to sleep.
Rigby lovingly embraces a foster kitten in his arms, as seen in a heartwarming photo shared by Holly from the Instagram account @pawsofoz. According to Holly, when the kittens are without a mother, Rigby patiently holds still while she feeds them using bottles draped over his body. This creates a nurturing environment for the orphans, making them feel as if they are nursing. Additionally, Rigby even assists in potty training the kittens, showing his caring and compassionate nature towards the tiny creatures in need.
The adorable tabby boy instinctively understands the needs of the kittens as soon as he sees them. When Holly introduces a new cat family into the home, Rigby displays impeccable feline manners by giving the mother cat plenty of space to feel at ease.
Rigby spends time with a group of foster kittens, as shared by Holly @pawsofoz. Holly mentioned that once the kittens reach about five weeks old, Rigby is eager to join them in playtime and enjoy their kitten food. Despite being an opportunist, as the kittens become more active and playful, he gradually wins over the mothers as well. Rigby has proven to be a valuable companion even with older foster cats. According to Holly, he serves as a test to assess whether a foster cat would accept another feline companion or not.
Holly, from @pawsofoz, is currently looking after Millie, a mother cat who was found as a stray, along with her litter of six kittens and five orphaned babies. She is working round the clock to make sure the younger five kittens get the supplement they need, while Millie has been stepping up and caring for all the babies as her own.
“I’m really grateful that Millie is here to lend a helping paw! Both litters are happy with full tummies. The little kittens love snuggling up with their bigger adopted siblings,” Holly mentioned. “Thanks to a lot of teamwork and extra care, she’s been mothering all 11 of them effortlessly!”
