A playful kitten with bent legs crossed paths with another unique kitten who happened to be born with a special trait. Instantly drawn to each other, they quickly formed a bond and began snuggling together.
Enter The Quirky Feline Haven
A little ball of fur named Lucy found her way to The Quirky Feline Haven in Salem, Massachusetts in search of a brighter future. Weighing less than a pound at just eight weeks old, this tiny kitten exuded confidence and fearlessness, announcing her presence with a resounding meow.
Tara Kay, the sanctuary’s founder, recalls, “The moment I laid eyes on her, she was meowing loudly, begging to be held. She was purring non-stop.” Right from the start, Lucy craved affection, insisting on hugs, cuddles, and being carried around. “She would meow until someone picked her up, and she absolutely adored being cradled and having her belly rubbed.”
The Unique Feline Haven
Despite her unique leg deformities, she never let them hinder her from roaming, discovering, and enjoying playtime. However, what she craved the most was the warmth of companionship and endless snuggles.
In a short span of time, another extraordinary kitten joined the diverse community at the sanctuary. Millie, a stray found at just six weeks old, was born with unusual back leg issues – one leg being longer than normal and the other missing a foot.
The Quirky Cat Haven
Upon being rescued from the shelter, she nestled into her savior’s embrace and purred contentedly. The sanctuary then introduced her to Lucy, who was thrilled to have a new cuddle buddy.
The bond between them was immediate, with the two swiftly engaging in playtime, chasing each other around the room, and finally cozying up together in a fluffy bed for a nap. It was as though they had been inseparable for eternity.

Tara shared with Love Meow how Lucy was thrilled to have a new friend and welcomed her instantly. As time went by, the dynamic duo thrived and overcame challenges together. They support each other and refuse to be limited by their disabilities.
The Odd Cat Sanctuary is full of surprises. According to Tara, Millie is quite the acrobat, displaying an impressive level of strength in her upper body despite her back legs being nonfunctional.
