A small kitty, only half its expected size for its age, is adamant about making the most of its life.
FosterBabyCats, a kitten rescue located in Columbus, Ohio, welcomed a litter of kittens after they were discovered abandoned by their mother. The caring individual who found them waited patiently for a week, hoping the mother would return, but sadly she never did. Among the kittens was Piper, who was much smaller than the rest.
Once the week was up, the kittens were taken to the rescue, where Piper received immediate treatment for aspiration pneumonia and swollen paws. Jillian, a member of the FosterBabyCats team, specializes in caring for orphan neonatal kittens, a group often overlooked in shelters.
Jillian dedicated herself to providing constant bottle feedings and extra care to strengthen the kittens’ immune systems and get them back on their feet.
Even faced with numerous challenges, Jillian remained by the kittens’ side, tirelessly battling to ensure their survival. Piper, in particular, was remarkably small during the initial three weeks, barely larger than the size of a palm compared to the other kittens in his litter.
Taking care of the kittens involved plenty of feedings and ensuring they were cozy in their incubator for most of the day. Despite the challenges, four out of the five kittens managed to survive and show signs of improvement, thanks to the dedicated foster mom’s round-the-clock care. Piper, the smallest one in the litter, proved to be a tough little fighter.
Taking care of the smallest kitten was a challenge for Jillian as it was a bit delayed in development. She increased the number of feedings and spent the entire day showering him with love. Piper, the adorable kitten, would always show his appreciation by rolling on his back for some belly rubs after a satisfying meal. His joyful demeanor and constant need for attention showed how much he valued his foster family.
Taking care of foster kittens, Piper received treatment for a minor eye infection and some swelling in his little paws. The brave feline is making good progress and showing remarkable improvement. Once he got the hang of walking, he wasted no time in joining in on playtime and play-fighting with his siblings. Despite his smaller size, Piper is proving to be one resilient little guy, according to Jillian.
Fostering kittens has been a great experience for Piper, who has quickly grown and developed in just a short time. In a span of two weeks, this little furball has definitely expanded in size and is now munching on food like there’s no tomorrow.
