Meerkats, also known as Suricata Suricatta, are typically found in the desert regions of Africa, such as the Kalahari or Namibian desert. It’s quite unusual to see them in colder climates like Russia, but one special meerkat named Surya now calls St. Petersburg her home thanks to Ekaterina Kuraeva. Surya was adopted from the Moscow zoo to prevent her from becoming just another “office toy”. You can follow their heartwarming story on Instagram for more updates.

However, Surya has a companion in the form of a plump Chartreux cat named Nice. Interestingly, despite not being related to cats genetically, meerkats have a strikingly feline appearance, hence their names in Dutch and Afrikaans translating to “lake cat” and “termite cat”, respectively.

Their connection was instant, and they have been inseparable ever since. Their Instagram account showcases their beautiful friendship. Surya is a needy and affectionate soul, often getting jealous when Ekaterina pays too much attention to the cat. Nice, on the other hand, is calm and discreet, always ready to give Surya the attention he craves. They spend all their time together, cuddling, playing, napping, and hugging each other constantly. Their interactions result in some of the cutest photos and videos on the internet.
