Undoubtedly, a trip to the vet can be a nerve-wracking experience for both the furry patient and their human companion. However, St. Francis Hospital for Animals seems to be a special place that everyone looks forward to visiting. This is all thanks to a beloved staff member who has captured the hearts of all who walk through the doors.
Ozzy, a small black cat with a rare form of dwarfism known as osteochondrodysplasia, was discovered by chance and brought to the clinic. The hospital’s kennel/boarding manager, Emily, along with her colleagues, made the decision to give him a forever home. Now, Ozzy lives a life of luxury where all his medical needs are taken care of at no cost, allowing him to bask in his carefree days with his feline friend, Yellow Cat.

Bored Panda got in touch with Emily to delve deeper into Ozzy’s unique tale. Emily, the kennel/boarding manager, shared a bit about herself: “Hey there, I’m Emily! I’m the go-to person for dogs needing a place to crash overnight or for those whose humans are jet-setting and need a pet-sitter.”
Ozzy’s unusual condition prevents him from reaching his full size and gives him some quirky features that set him apart visually.

Initially, Ozzy’s dwarfism wasn’t immediately identified by his owners. Emily shared how they first noticed something wasn’t quite right: “When he first arrived, he had parasites and conjunctivitis, which we quickly treated. Once those issues were resolved, we realized he wasn’t growing and began the journey to figure out what was going on with him.”
“He’s been diagnosed with osteochondrodysplasia, a type of genetic dwarfism. Along with that, he faces challenges such as short joints, occasional breathing difficulties due to his bulldog-like face, and the occasional bout of constipation.”

Ozzy plays a vital role at the clinic, and it’s hard to picture it without him. According to Emily, who works at the clinic, Ozzy and his brother Yellow greet them every day. Clients particularly adore them during tough times like euthanasia, as Ozzy never fails to bring a smile to people’s faces. Despite his challenges, Ozzy is cherished and embraces life just like any other cat. While he may not have the ability to jump high or move swiftly, he finds joy in sleeping on his cozy heating pad, playing with his brother Yellow, and causing a bit of mischief. Emily expressed, “He’s not your typical cat in some ways, but in others, he’s just a regular cat. He holds a special place in our hearts at the clinic.”
Fortunately, Ozzy has found a loving home where he receives top-notch care. Emily explained, “Our vet clinic may be small, but we’ve been serving the community for over 15 years! It’s the perfect environment for Ozzy because he has a doctor for a dad and about 5 ‘moms’ ranging from receptionists to technicians. He gets all the care he needs for free, and we’re always quick to address any concerns about his health.”
