Shannon Jackson shared the heartwarming story of Smush, a special little ginger kitten who was brought to the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Smush was found without her mother and was born with a cleft palate along with other health issues. Despite her challenges, Smush remained resilient and didn’t let her differences define her.
Upon arrival, Smush was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, severe ringworm, and was having trouble eating on her own. A kind vet student, Lindsey, who also works with Helping Hands Pet Rescue, offered to take care of Smush and provide her with the round-the-clock care she needed to survive. Lindsey took Smush home and diligently syringe-fed her for a month, showing the little kitten love and compassion during her road to recovery.
One night, Lindsey woke up to tend to Smush, making sure the little cat was fed, cleaned, and given the love she needed. Despite needing frequent baths to combat ringworm, Smush never voiced any complaints and showed true resilience throughout it all.
Lindsey was fortunate enough to have the college’s approval to bring the kitten along wherever she went, ensuring she could provide constant care and attention. After Smush recovered and regained her appetite, Laura, another foster parent, welcomed her into her home to provide ongoing care and help her become more sociable. This adorable ginger cat was really flourishing in foster care – she was full of energy, in good health, and her adorable personality was starting to come out more and more.
After overcoming the odds, the kitten made a remarkable recovery a couple of months later.
Feeling prepared for a fresh start, she crossed paths with Shannon, and their connection was instant and undeniable.
