Most people think of cats as calm and cute creatures, but Chirico the Japanese cat influencer breaks that stereotype. Despite her appearance resembling a cuddly teddy bear, Chirico is actually a Selkirk Rex, a unique breed known for their curly fur and photogenic features.

Bored Panda got in touch with the owner of Chirico, the disgruntled feline residing in Tokyo, revealing that she is a three-year-old kitty with a penchant for strawberries. Numerous photos capture the Selkirk Rex indulging in the juicy red fruit, showcasing her love for it. Despite her perpetually unimpressed visage, her owner insists that Chirico is actually a gentle cat with a wide range of facial expressions, with her favorite being the yawning face.

Introduced to Montana in 1987, the Selkirk Rex cat breed has quickly captured the hearts of many with its unique wavy fur. This breed, born from a natural mutation in a litter of kittens from a blue tortoiseshell and white cat, has gained a devoted following for its stunning appearance.

The Cat Fancier’s Association notes that Selkirk Rex cats can have either short or long fur. Maintaining their coats requires similar care to that of other short or long-haired cats, with brushing needed less frequently to preserve the curly coat.

To keep their fur looking and feeling luxurious, special shampoos that enhance the curls without leaving a residue are recommended by the Association. These treatments help the Selkirk Rex cats maintain their signature look.

As per information from Pet Finder, Newman at the Noface Cattery in Livington, Montana was taken aback when he discovered that DePesto was not only carrying the dominant curly-coat gene, but also the recessive gene for long hair. This occurrence was due to both parents having at least one copy of the long hair gene, resulting in the birth of long-haired offspring.
