Introducing Apricot: A Unique Chimera Kitten with Double the Charm

Not long ago, a pair of the most adorable kitten siblings were discovered and brought to Nashville Cat Rescue in Tennessee. A thoughtful family, who had recently moved in and was carrying out construction work, spotted the orphaned kittens abandoned in a wall and alerted the rescue organization.

The kittens were promptly taken in by a foster parent named Kiki, along with her two rescued mother cats who had recently given birth. The trio of feline moms, Olive and Pickle, warmly welcomed the tiny siblings, Apricot and Pretzel, into their litter. Despite being only 2-3 weeks old, the orphaned kittens quickly found a new home with their caring new family.

For more heartwarming updates, you can follow their journey on Instagram and Facebook. Check out Apricot, one of the sweet abandoned kittens that were saved from the wall.

Apricot’s unique appearance hints at the possibility that she could be a genetic chimera cat, a rare phenomenon that occurs naturally.

Kiki, acting as the caregiver for the two mother cats Olive and Pickle, gently introduced Apricot and Pretzel into their little family, integrating them gradually.

When Bored Panda had the chance, they got in touch with Kayli, a foster for Nashville Cat Rescue, who excitedly shared the whole story with them in more depth.

“Pickle and Olive are a pair of adult kitties that were found in a cat colony in the Greater Nashville area. The family helping out the colony discovered that these girls were not only friendly but also both expecting! When they reached out to the rescue, they had one request – for the girls to be kept together, even when it came time for them to find forever homes.

It took a little while for Pickle and Olive to settle in with me. They were still a bit timid and would often greet me with a hiss or growl. But it was clear that they had a strong bond and felt secure in each other’s presence. I made sure to spend as much time with them as possible, while also giving them the space they needed. I would even sit on the floor with them while I worked on my laptop, just to make sure they were comfortable with me around, especially as the kittens arrived and needed care.”

“Pickle and Olive are a delight to observe, and their babies are simply adorable. They take turns caring for each other’s babies as if they were their own.”

“Pickle was more friendly than Olive, and when I was petting her, Olive would come over for some attention. After a few weeks, Pickle gave birth to six kittens, but sadly one didn’t survive. While Pickle was taking care of her babies, Olive would still try to be close to her in the playpen, although she showed no interest in the kittens initially. However, after about a week, Olive started spending time with the babies in the playpen and even began to care for them as if they were her own, becoming protective of them when I tried to check on them. A week after Pickle’s kittens were born, I was surprised to find a new addition – Olive’s first little baby!
She had another kitten 24 hours later. With such a small litter and the unusual gap between births, I took Olive to the vet to make sure everything was alright. It turned out she needed an emergency C-section, which saved her life as there was a deceased kitten still inside her.”
“In addition to their own kittens, Olive and Pickle also took in two babies whose mother didn’t come back for them.”

A recent addition to the neighborhood noticed some kittens in their wall shortly after moving in. Concerned about the kittens’ well-being without their mom, they quickly realized they needed to find a nursing cat to take care of them. Luckily, Apricot and Pretzel, named after a charcuterie theme, seamlessly joined the family and were happily accepted by other furry siblings Pickle and Olive. It’s as if they have always been a part of the family!
