Introducing a little kitten with deformed front legs who discovered her hero and joyfully hopped into their embrace – Let’s welcome Kanga Roo!
Cara from Saving Grace Rescue Inc
Kanga was taken to a vet clinic in Northern California with the intention of being put down. At just four weeks old, all she craved was some cuddles.
When Cheryl stumbled upon this little kitten at the clinic, she couldn’t help but see how unique she was.
Kanga was born with a condition known as radial agenesis, a birth defect that impacts the development of the radius bone in the forelimbs. Cats like Kanga struggle to support weight with their front legs.
Cara, a tiny one-pound dog, was rescued by Cheryl who reached out to Saving Grace Rescue Inc in San Francisco for help. Once out of the clinic, Cara quickly adapted to her new environment at the shelter, exploring her surroundings with excitement and using the litter box like a seasoned pro.
Josh Norem, also known as The Furrtographer, captured a heartwarming moment as a loving tabby cat nuzzled against her rescuer’s fingers and playfully tried to hold their hand with her small front paws. Check out the heart-melting video below:
Joyce and her family first caught wind of Kanga’s story and knew right away that they wanted to welcome her into their home.
“After watching a video of her, we were smitten. Since she was on the smaller side, it took a bit longer for her to hit the 2 lbs mark needed for her spaying surgery,” Joyce shared.
Finally, on June 28, 2014, Kanga officially became a part of their family and was greeted warmly by her new feline and canine pals. She was bouncing around with excitement at the thought of her forever home!
Cara from Saving Grace Rescue Inc witnessed how Skittles the tabby quickly formed a strong bond with Kanga, assuming a protective role as her sister.

Enjoying some much-needed snuggles from her older sibling!
Kanga Roo, all grown up and ready to hop around!
Kanga Roo transformed into a stunning tabby female cat. As she reached her first birthday, it became evident that she had a special fondness for orphaned kittens in need of care and love.
Joyce began welcoming foster kittens into her home in May 2015, and Kanga immediately bonded with their first foster, Hector. Since then, Kanga has taken on the role of a foster mom for all the rescue kittens they bring in.
“Kanga Roo, always on alert, fully embraced her role as the protector. As the kittens fed, she listened attentively for any disturbances, ever vigilant to ensure their safety.”
Meet Kanga Roo and her newest foster, Baby Alealani. Alealani was born with a similar condition as Kanga. The little one is looking up to Kanga, imitating her every move and learning from her.
Kanga Roo may have bent front legs, but she doesn’t let that hold her back. Despite her unique way of moving, she doesn’t see herself as disabled, but rather as differently abled.
