A wandering feline led her saviors to her litter of kittens, one of whom has a unique charm with a little cleft lip and a perpetually cheeky wink.
Kolony Kats, run by Kris and Kia Papiernik, is a rescue organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that focuses on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) for feral cat colonies. With a keen eye for felines in need, they have been devoted to caring for these cats for several years. Recently, while on their regular rounds, they spotted a stray cat crossing the road on a cold day when no one else was around. Concerned for the cat’s well-being, they stopped to offer food, only to discover that she was a nursing mother.
The cat was welcoming but a bit nervous, so Kris and Kia decided to patiently observe from their car to see where she would lead them. This tactic has proven successful in the past, as mother cats often lead rescuers to their kittens.
The Kolony Kats organization recently came across a stray cat on someone’s front porch. While investigating, they found a bunch of cardboard boxes and debris scattered around. After some searching, they stumbled upon a heartwarming surprise – four adorable fluffy kittens tucked away in one of the boxes.
The homeowner informed them that the cat was a stray who had given birth to four litters in the past two years. Concerned about the well-being of the kittens and wanting to break the cycle, Kolony Kats offered to rescue the furry family.
Thankfully, the homeowner agreed, and the next day, Kolony Kats returned to collect the cats. It was then that they noticed one of the kittens was particularly special.
The Kolony Kats were in for a surprise when they discovered that the smallest kitten in the litter had a unique look – one eye and a cleft lip. But despite his appearance, this little one was also the bravest and most vocal of the bunch. The family of five was promptly taken to the vet for a thorough check-up.
Kia, one of the feline parents, shared with Love Meow that all the kittens had a clean bill of health. Mama cat had done an excellent job taking care of her babies, considering the circumstances. The special kitten with the cleft lip and a missing eye was diagnosed with aophthalmia, a genetic condition that results in the absence of the eyeball and ocular tissue. Fortunately, these conditions were purely cosmetic and wouldn’t have any impact on his quality of life.

Roe, a volunteer, warmly greeted the small feline family as they entered her caring foster home. The mother cat, now named Eleanor, was grateful to have a secure and cozy place to stay. Delighted with her new surroundings, she immediately started to knead and purr in contentment.
Settling down on her comfy bed, Eleanor happily continued to shower her kittens with love and attention.

Kurduroy, the little kitten with a cleft lip, may be smaller than his siblings, Koko, Kelsi, and Kirby, but his personality shines brightly. Despite his size, Kurduroy is full of life and charm.
“He’s got the loudest voice and he’s always exploring. Lately, he’s been obsessed with the water dish. It’s like his own personal playground,” shared Kia.
“While he may stand out from his brothers and sisters, his mom and litter mates treat him just the same.”

The kittens are smitten with their little sibling, engaging in playful wrestling matches as they navigate the art of being a cat. Mama Eleanor is a vigilant and caring mother, keeping a close eye on her babies and ensuring they stay clean and groomed.

“We were just in time to rescue these little ones! If we had waited another couple of weeks, they would have started exploring beyond the safety of the porch where they were born, putting them in danger,” Kris shared with Love Meow.
Now, this precious family of five is flourishing in their foster home.

In just a few weeks, these kittens will be all set for their next adventure in loving forever homes.

Roe gushed, “Momma cat is a total sweetheart. She’s so relaxed, letting me cuddle her babies and snuggling up to me when I hold her.”
“The kittens have all topped a pound in weight, and they’re thriving. Eleanor is a doting mom, making sure they’re all well-fed and kept clean.”
