A tiny tabby cat burst into the indoors with a playful purr. Since then, he has been dashing and bounding around with his contorted little legs.
Professor X, a black and white kitten with a loud meow, was discovered on a rural property in need of assistance. The kitten had been left behind by a feral cat who was relocating her litter, possibly due to the deformity in his front legs. The caring property owners responded to the distressed meows and rescued the tiny kitten. Recognizing the need for professional help, they contacted Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue (SAAR) in Manitoba, Canada.
Raelle, SAAR’s Medical Director and Cat Intake/Foster Coordinator, recalled the moment they received the five-week-old kitten. Despite his small size and deformity, Professor X was described as precious and endearing.
He was discovered outside on a rural property, and Raelle, from the Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue, welcomed the kitten with open arms, providing round-the-clock care. Recognizing his need for attention and comfort, she opted to wear a specially designed hoodie that featured a fleece-lined pouch in the front, perfect for snuggling small rescue animals. This way, the tiny ball of fur was able to nestle in and stay warm all day long.
“I made sure to keep him close to me to ensure he stayed warm and felt secure. When I wasn’t holding him, he found comfort cuddled around a stuffed panda bear and a bear that played lullabies,” Raelle recalled.
Professor X was a fan of cuddling and being carried around in the front pocket. Raelle and her young son decided to name the kitten after the X-Men character due to his unique appearance. Professor X was born with deformities in his front legs and toes, but they did not affect his health.
The team at Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue all came to a consensus that Professor X was going to be given the opportunity to enjoy a typical, thriving life, and our vet was fully behind this decision. While Professor X may have some slight developmental setbacks and issues with his front legs, he doesn’t let any of it hold him back. He exudes positivity, bounding around the house with an unbeatable energy. His courage and vocal nature show just how strong-willed he is in expressing his needs and desires.
Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue team returned to the location to search for the mother and remaining puppies. They were successful in rescuing Professor X’s siblings, Rogue and Gambit. The volunteers also managed to capture the feral cat mother and took her to the vet for spaying.

After the kittens were reunited, they were initially nervous and hissy, as they were not accustomed to being indoors or handled frequently. However, with time and effort, they became more comfortable and well-socialized. Raelle, a member of the rescue team, shared their heartwarming journey with Love Meow.
Professor X was joyfully reunited with his brothers Steinbach and the crew at Area Animal Rescue. Despite his unique differences, Professor X doesn’t let anything hold him back as he happily scurries and hops around with a carefree attitude. While he may tire out a bit quicker than his energetic siblings, he always bounces back after a longer nap. Although he may struggle with going up and down stairs and climbing up window screens or curtains, he can still run, play, and jump just like the rest of his family.

Bentley, a temporary caregiver for a cat in need, has embraced the young feline with affection and care.
“Despite his tough exterior, Bentley has shown his gentle and nurturing side by showering Professor X with hugs and grooming, much like a mother cat would do.”
Bentley the cat lovingly showered Professor X with cuddles at the Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue. In the upcoming weeks, Professor X will undergo treatment to assess the possibility of straightening his front legs. Raelle expressed confidence that even if the treatment is unsuccessful, Professor X will live a comfortable life as a cherished indoor pet.
The Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue recently shared a heartwarming story about a sweet and gentle boy who craves cuddles and attention. He is simply adorable and his rescuer is incredibly grateful to have him in their life.
