A feline curled up next to a woman in the shelter and refused to leave her side, even after spending years roaming the streets.
Two years ago, Daisy Austin, an adoption coordinator based in West Hollywood, California, found herself unexpectedly drawn to a cat named Marmie during an adoption event at South LA Animal Shelter. Despite not planning on bringing home another pet, Marmie’s sweet demeanor won her over.
Marmie, who was rescued from the streets in a dire state, captured Daisy’s heart with her affectionate gestures and loud purrs. Weighing just 4.5 pounds and covered in mats and dirt, Marmie’s vulnerable state tugged at Daisy’s heartstrings.
Daisy Austin was not only battling a bad upper respiratory infection but also had little cuts on her face. Marmie, while appearing a bit gruff, was actually just craving affection. She locked eyes with Daisy, her sad gaze pleading for attention as she nuzzled the cage for some pets. Aware that the shelter couldn’t provide long-term care for Marmie, Daisy realized she needed to make a quick decision.
Daisy Austin shared that she faced a tough decision when she found a cat in need on the streets. Despite having a beloved 16-year-old cat at home, she knew she had to act quickly to help the stray. When she brought the cat, named Marmie, home, the furry feline showered her with gratitude by cuddling for hours and purring contently. Daisy felt a special connection with Marmie as the cat looked into her eyes, recognizing that she had been rescued from a difficult life on the streets of Los Angeles.
Daisy Austin’s beloved Marmie may have been at least 10 years old, but her playful spirit made her seem much younger. Despite facing multiple health challenges such as FIV, stomatitis, Ehler-Danlos syndrome, and feline airway disease, Marmie never let anything hold her back. After a few baths and a grooming session to remove all the mats and knots in her fur, Marmie happily settled on Daisy’s lap, purring contentedly until she fell asleep. She would gaze lovingly into Daisy’s eyes, demanding attention and affection as if nothing else in the world mattered.
Daisy Austin’s beloved cat, Marmie, underwent a major dental procedure to address her stomatitis issue by having all her teeth removed. Surprisingly, Marmie’s recovery was quick, and within a day, she was eating effortlessly and gaining weight and energy.
You can witness Marmie’s incredible transformation in a heartwarming video where she joyfully embraces her new forever home after years of living on the streets.
Due to a condition called EDS, Marmie has excess skin around her neck that is delicate and prone to tearing, requiring careful attention and time to heal. Despite these health challenges, Marmie’s positive attitude shines through, always cheerful and content.
Marmie is most content nestled in a warm lap, happily napping away, knowing she is loved and well cared for by her compassionate human companion.
Daisy Austin is one resilient feline with an unbreakable spirit. According to Daisy, every medical professional who has interacted with her has been astonished by her sheer determination to keep going. She adores snuggling up to her human while leaving a trail of drool, and she’s always eager to play and accompany her owner around the apartment.
Whether Daisy is in the kitchen, closet, or on the couch, this devoted kitty is by her side every step of the way. She never misses a chance to show her love and loyalty, making her truly a special companion.

Marmie has come a long way since her shelter days as a skinny, messy cat. She has transformed into a beautiful snuggle buddy, now weighing in at 11.5 pounds.
In addition to her passion for food, she also loves accompanying her human mom on walks.
Daisy Austin adores the outdoors so much that she joyfully tumbles on the grass and never stops purring. One of her other favorite activities is lounging in the sunlight in our recently acquired apartment. Marmie, on the other hand, acts as a vigilant bodyguard and supervisor, following her human companion to the bathroom and every corner of the house.
Daisy Austin kicks off her mornings with Marmie kneading biscuits on her arms and purring contently in her ears. At night, she always snuggles up next to her mom for a cozy and comforting sleep, refusing to doze off anywhere else.
Daisy Austin shared, “Marmie is like my rock, always keeping me centered, grateful, and content even on tough days.” Although Marmie may be 12 years old, her youthful spirit shines through, surpassing all expectations and radiating pure joy.
