A feline sought assistance at a vet clinic in hopes of a brighter future. Today, he pays it forward by lending a paw to those facing challenges.
Oaks Veterinary Urgent Care saw a ginger and white cat come in with a spinal injury in Agoura Hills, California. Dr. Rachel Wallach shared that the cat, lovingly called Ferg, was paralyzed from his mid-back downwards. Despite this, Ferg still had feeling in his back legs and tail, giving hope for recovery.
Dr. Wallach took a chance on Ferg, knowing that the road to recovery would be slow but worth it. The team at the clinic was dedicated to helping Ferg regain his ability to walk and use the bathroom on his own. Ferg, being a Scottish Fold, was given the name Fergus, meaning “Man of Strength”, after Dr. Wallach’s time in vet school in Scotland.
Wrenn’s Heroic Rescue
After receiving treatment for his pain and urinary tract infection, Fergus slowly started to regain feeling in his body. It was a rewarding moment for everyone involved when he stood up on his own for the first time a few weeks later.
Rachel shared with Love Meow that although they would like to take credit for Fergus’ progress, it was actually the presence of another cat friend that motivated him. Salvador, the clinic cat, took notice of Fergus from the moment he arrived, and the two immediately started meowing at each other. A simple gesture of placing a step stool in front of Fergus’ cage allowed Salvador to climb up and greet Fergus, which sparked a newfound motivation in him. The team at the clinic was overjoyed to see the impact of this feline friendship on Fergus’s progress.
Fergus, the feline, and ET, the little kitten, ventured into Oaks Veterinary Urgent Care. As Fergus started to recover, he roamed around the clinic, making new furry companions along the way. Rachel from Love Meow shared, “He even befriended a dog who was recuperating from heat stroke and stuck by his side for the day.” Additionally, when a group of orphaned ducklings arrived, the gentle-hearted Fergus immediately offered them warmth and solace. It became apparent that Fergus had a unique ability to bring comfort to those around him now that he was no longer confined to his bed.
At Oaks Veterinary Urgent Care, Fergus the cat and ET the kitten have become quite the dynamic duo. Rachel, a staff member, recounted how Fergus has taken on the role of caretaker for the newest feline patients. When a litter of 10 kittens needed a safe haven, Fergus made sure they were well-groomed and looked after.
One of the kittens was in a critical condition and required intensive care. After the other kittens found homes, Fergus took him under his wing and showed him endless care and affection. Another kitten, Skywalker, was discovered barely alive on the roadside. Despite efforts to nurse him back to health, he continued to struggle. Once his fleas were gone and his stomach issues resolved, Skywalker was placed with a foster parent in the hopes of a better future.
Fergus the cat took Skywalker the kitten under his care at Oaks Veterinary Urgent Care. Skywalker’s health improved significantly under Fergus’s watchful eye, and he began eating eagerly. Despite a tough start in life, the kitten showed remarkable progress with Fergus’s support.
Fergus played a crucial role in nursing Skywalker back to health, and the kitten blossomed into a beautiful young cat under his guidance. Enjoy watching Ferg and Skywalker’s heartwarming journey in this adorable video!
