Chika, the proud owner of Bocco and Zuu, also known as pechanko_bocco on Instagram, loves sharing adorable photos of her cats on the platform. With an extensive collection of 1,720 posts and a growing following of over 33,400 fans, the two felines are quite popular. Bocco, an Exotic Shorthair cat, was born on June 26, 2016, while Zuu, an Exotic Longhair, is a bit younger, born on August 21, 2017. Both of these male exotic cats have captured the hearts of many online.

In an exclusive interview with Bored Panda, Chika shared that her cats love to sleep most of the day, estimating that they snooze for about 20 hours. Bocco is a bit reserved and takes time to warm up to strangers, but he adores receiving massages from Chika and follows her around the house. Interestingly, he used to be great pals with Chika’s hedgehogs. On the other hand, Zuu is more social and brave, showing no fear when encountering dogs in the park.

Chika mentioned to Bored Panda that she initially started by posting pictures of her hedgehogs on Instagram, and it felt natural to include her cats as well. She expressed her surprise and joy at the increasing number of followers, particularly appreciating the positive comments that convey how her photos bring smiles to people’s faces – a sentiment she shares when capturing those delightful moments with Bocco and Zuu.

Chika shared her daily routine of caring for her famous flat-faced cats, Zuu and Bocco, explaining that she has to clean their tear stains every day as their tears are brown, which is common for their breed. She also mentioned that her cats are incredibly lazy and won’t eat on their own, requiring her to hand-feed them food pellets. Despite leaving some food out for them, they prefer to wait for her to come home and feed them personally. Chika ensures they eat high-quality, human-grade, grain-free cat food along with supplements. She humorously mentioned that Zuu is not very athletic and struggles with heights and jumping, still unable to reach the top of their cat tower.

You may have already become enamored with the adorable cat duo Bocco and Zuu that have taken the internet by storm (we certainly have!). However, you might not be familiar with the Exotic Shorthair and Longhair breeds they belong to. Not to worry! Here’s a brief introduction to help you get acquainted.

The Exotic Shorthair breed was developed in 1967 by crossing Persians with British Shorthairs. According to the Trupanion cat guide, this new breed inherited qualities from both parent breeds – the laid-back personality of the Persian and the low-maintenance coat and higher activity levels of the British Shorthair. Exotic Shorthairs make excellent family pets as they are playful yet independent, making them a great fit for households with children.

These fluffy felines enjoy playing with toys and snuggling with their human companions, but they do demand additional grooming. It’s essential to brush a Longhair’s coat daily to prevent it from resembling Boris Johnson’s infamous hairstyle. Otherwise, who knows? It might end up holding a political office in London or even becoming the Prime Minister of the UK.

Avoid overfeeding them, even if they give you those irresistible sad kitty eyes like Puss in Boots. Otherwise, your cat could end up being a mega chonker. Additionally, Exotic Shorthairs are highly attached to their human companions and can become anxious if left alone for long periods of time. But really, who would want to leave these adorable cats by themselves anyway?

The Exotic Shorthair and other similar breeds are facing breathing issues due to their flat faces, as per Claire Bessant of International Cat Care. She expressed concern over the impact of human desire for certain looks on these breeds. However, not all Exotic Shorthairs are constantly suffering, and with proper care, love, and attention, they can live up to 16 years. If you’re thinking about getting an Exotic Shorthair, consider adopting one from an animal shelter instead of purchasing from a breeder to give them a loving forever home.
