Even though Sarah didn’t have high hopes because of Polly’s age and health, the sweet kitty quickly won her over.
Sarah mentioned to Bored Panda that she was on the lookout for a senior cat to welcome into her family. She had a peaceful, comfortable apartment and envisioned an older cat enjoying their retirement there. After reading about the cat online, she decided to visit The Patricia Ladew Foundation to meet her in person.

Sarah’s life was forever changed when Polly, a 15-year-old cat, came into her world. Initially noticing how inactive Polly was, Sarah didn’t have high hopes for her.
“After meeting her, I knew she was the perfect match for what I wanted. Her calm demeanor and the amazing sound of her purring caught my attention. Her age didn’t matter to me at all – in fact, it was exactly what I was hoping for. On February 26, 2024, we will be marking three wonderful years together!” – Credits to meow_its_polly.

“She longed for affection and was always seeking more cuddles. When we first crossed paths, as I was about to depart, she gazed at me from the doorway, and in that moment, I felt a strong bond with her, and I knew she was destined to be by my side.”

Upon bringing Polly home, Sarah noticed that she seamlessly blended in as if she belonged there all along.
According to Sarah, Polly quickly adjusted to her new home and started playing like a kitten again. Sarah was impressed by how well Polly adapted, despite her initial concerns. Even though Polly is deaf and toothless, she can eat both wet and dry food without any issues. Sarah emphasizes the importance of being cautious around deaf animals to avoid startling them. She still talks to Polly as if she can hear, treating her with the same love and care as the younger cats.

When younger cats try to get too close, she acts like she’s too busy for their antics.

Sarah began to observe Elliot often hanging out with Polly just a few weeks after they met. The two felines hit it off right from the start and formed a strong bond.

The cats snuggle up together, and whenever Elliot comes close to Polly, she starts grooming him. He tilts his head in a cute way, indicating he loves getting groomed by her, and she loves it just as much.
“It’s important for everyone to realize just how amazing senior pets can be.”

“Older cats truly appreciate all the love they receive, so it’s crucial for pet owners to stay committed to their furry friends as they age. This is when they need us the most. Their golden years deserve just as much attention and care as their younger days. I urge people to consider adopting senior animals instead of always going for puppies and kittens. Remember, those cute little furballs will grow up one day and rely on you more than ever in their old age.”
“Bringing a senior pet into your home is incredibly fulfilling and you won’t ever look back.”
