Ecstatic Kitty Finds Joy in Snuggling Up on a Comfy Couch, Finally Free from Staircase Confines

Cat So Happy to Have a Couch to Sleep On After Living Under Staircase for Years

After years of wandering the streets and taking shelter under a staircase, a cat is overjoyed to finally have a cozy couch to call its own for a good night’s sleep.

Ferdinand Bullion, the tabby cat, had become a familiar sight on the streets of Montreal, enduring the cold winters with resilience. One compassionate man took notice of the stray cat and made it a daily routine to feed him. He even crafted a cozy shelter for Ferdinand under the staircase, which the cat happily adopted as his own abode.

One day, Karoline, a caring individual, spotted Ferdinand lying near the staircase looking unwell. When she tried to approach him, the skittish cat darted away in fear.

For years, he wandered the streets of Montreal until one day, a volunteer from Chatons Orphelins Montréal stumbled upon his hiding spot under the stairs. The area was filled with flies and emitted a strong smell. Celine Crom, a member of the organization, recounted how a local resident revealed that he had been living outside, refusing to let anyone come near him or earn his trust.

He resided in a temporary shelter beneath a stairwell.

Karoline reached out to a TNR rescuer named Nadia to help rescue the cat. “Upon arrival, Nadia observed that he was in poor condition and urgently needed medical care. His ears showed signs of frostbite, and he walked with a drooping head,” shared Celine with Love Meow.

“Realizing that he had to be taken out of his current dire situation, Nadia stayed for over 12 hours in order to ensure his safety.”

Through hard work and the assistance of the kind man who was feeding the cat, they were able to capture the tabby and take him to Chatons Orphelins Montréal. “We decided to name him Ferdinand Bullion. He was quite frightened initially due to all the unfamiliar surroundings.”
“Ferdinand was believed to be around eight years old. He was extremely emaciated, tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), and had a severe mouth infection along with various other health problems,” Celine explained.

After being saved and taken to safety by Chatons Orphelins Montréal, Bullion underwent dental surgery to remove all his teeth and had his matted fur shaved off. With the pain gone, he was able to relax and catch up on much-needed rest. In addition, he received treatment for thyroid and stomach problems over the course of a month.

Under the loving care of the team, Ferdi Bullion started gaining weight and his fur began to regrow beautifully. He was now ready to start socializing and learning to trust again.

He underwent a procedure to have all his decayed teeth removed and tangled fur removed. Alvin and Morgane, who are foster volunteers at the rescue organization, welcomed him into their home and dedicated time each day to building a bond with him, proving to him that they had good intentions. Through the use of treats and a great deal of patience, Bullion went from cowering in a corner to snuggling on their foster parent’s lap and eventually allowing himself to be held in their arms.

“When he first arrived, he was very shy and had a look of sadness in his eyes. He didn’t trust anyone outside and had to be cautious to stay safe. We had to prove to him that things would get better,” Celine recounted to Love Meow.
“After a few weeks of dedicated care from his foster family, he began to feel more at ease and started to unwind. He even made friends with the other foster cats and gradually started to open up.”

Bullion is a big fan of cat treats from Chatons Orphelins Montréal. In the last few months, Bullion has shown remarkable growth and has become more self-assured. His favorite spot is curling up on the couch or burrowing in a cozy blanket. While he is still adjusting to the concept of play, he occasionally enjoys frolicking with toys.
