Introducing the adorable and plump kitty known as Bazooka, an orange tabby with a heart of gold. At five years old, he found himself at a shelter following the passing of his elderly owner. Due to his owner’s dementia, Bazooka’s bowl was often refilled, leading to his weight ballooning to over 35 pounds. While some may be quick to judge, it’s important to remember that Bazooka’s previous owner was simply doing their best to care for and show love to their beloved feline companion. He was so hefty that it took two staff members to carry him in, who were taken aback by his size. This rotund cat had to begin a weight loss program to improve his health, boost his happiness, and be able to engage in all the usual feline activities.

In a video, we can see him attempting to climb stairs, but with the encouragement of his foster parents, he managed to reach the top. Over time, Bazooka adjusted to his healthier lifestyle and started to see some weight loss.
After Bazooka recovered from his health issues, he was all set to join his new family. The moment his new owner laid eyes on him, she was smitten with the charming cat! The scene was heartwarming. Before long, Bazooka was rechristened with a name that suited him perfectly – King Augustus, a fitting moniker for a cat of his regal demeanor.

We were able to get in touch with Robin Anderson, the new owner of King Agustus, to get an update on how the cat is settling in. When asked about his progress in losing weight, she mentioned that it’s only been 2 days since he was adopted, so there hasn’t been any weight loss yet. In fact, when he was weighed at the Vet’s office on Monday, he had actually gained a bit, weighing in at 36.4lbs. She mentioned that the next vet check-up is scheduled for February 14th.
When questioned about the biggest challenge of looking after King Augustus, the owner jokingly replied, “The toughest part is lugging him around and getting him into his crate or the car. My arms are so sore!”

Robin is passionate about staying fit and active. She shared her inspiring journey of becoming a long-distance runner after being diagnosed with diabetes five years ago. By losing a significant amount of weight and committing to a regular workout routine, she was able to improve her health and no longer has diabetes. Robin runs early in the morning twice a week and covers 4-5 miles each time, and on weekends she runs longer distances of 8-16 miles. She recently completed a half-marathon and has many more races planned for the year ahead. Robin is even considering getting a harness for her dog King so they can enjoy walks together. The owner mentioned that Augustus is in the process of settling into his new surroundings, gradually meeting the rest of the family which includes their 10-pound furry friend. Robin described Augustus as a cuddly companion who thoroughly enjoys belly rubs, eagerly anticipating the day he feels completely at ease in his new home. She also expressed her admiration for Augustus’ purring abilities, comparing it to the sound of a roaring Ford F-150 truck.
Robin shared the heartwarming tale of how she came to welcome Augustus into her home. After losing her beloved Maine Coon cat, Whisky, Robin felt a void in her life. Following the Maine Coon Rescue Community on Facebook, she had been keeping an eye out for a new furry friend. When she saw a post about King (Bazooka) being moved to the Wake County SPCA in her state, she knew it was meant to be. The photo of him being held by a young woman captured her heart, and she immediately felt a connection. Rushing to the SPCA to fill out the paperwork, Robin was thrilled to find out she was first in line to adopt Augustus. The redhead felt a bond with Augustus, knowing they were meant to be together. With joy in her heart, she eagerly awaited the arrival of her new feline companion.

Although they are still in the process of getting acquainted, it is hoped that they will become a close-knit, happy family soon.
