One day, a mother cat showed up at a home with her litter of kittens, including one little one who was a bit timid and needed some extra encouragement to build up their courage.
Mikkie the kitty, as seen on @comrescuemontreal, was part of a feline family that found refuge in the yard of a kind family who had been helping out community cats in their area. With a history of rescuing and spaying/neutering strays, Chantal and her loved ones were accustomed to offering food and cozy shelters to their furry visitors.
When they noticed a mother cat and her two kittens seeking assistance in their yard, they stepped in to provide care and affection. Although initially wary of human contact, the feline family slowly began to trust their new caretakers, especially after being showered with patience and yummy treats.
A mother cat proudly introduced her two kittens to a family’s yard, showing off her little ones to the humans. The kittens, though already weaned, still stuck close to their mom, finding comfort in the yard’s shelters for their cozy naps, as shared by Celine from Chatons Orphelins Montreal.
Slowly but surely, the cat mom made the yard her new home, mustering up the courage to interact with the family for food and affection. Gradually, she started to let her guard down and feel at ease around her newfound caretakers.
The family began to provide food and nurture for the cats. They were proactive in getting the mother cat spayed and ensuring the wellbeing of all three felines. The cat was relieved to finally be liberated from the responsibilities of motherhood, no longer having to scavenge for food or seek out shelter. The family developed a deep affection for her and opted to give her a permanent home.
The kittens were born outdoors and were cautious around people. They were in need of socialization after growing up in the wilderness without any human contact. Chatons Orphelins Montreal stepped in to provide them with the care they needed, finding a loving foster home to help them adjust to human interaction.
Following a visit to the veterinarian, the kittens, now named Marlah (short-haired) and Mikkie (long-haired), were placed in the care of a compassionate foster family. Despite their timid nature, their eyes showed a glimmer of optimism as they began their journey towards socialization.
Marlah and Mikkie were saved and brought to a foster home to help them get used to being around people. They were both about four months old and had never really interacted with humans much before arriving at the foster home.
The foster family set them up in a quiet room where they could relax and get used to their new surroundings. They explored their space, gobbled up their dinner, and snuggled up in their soft, comfy bed, starting to get more comfortable with the idea of living indoors.
The pair of cats were neutered, received medical care, and were comfortably housed indoors by @comrescuemontreal. Marlah, the more courageous of the duo, slowly shed her shyness to reveal a fun-loving side reminiscent of a playful kitten. Gradually, her wariness towards strangers disappeared as she experienced the comfort and affection of a caring household.
“She began to build trust and would purr contentedly in the presence of her human companions. Over time, she formed a strong bond with her foster family.”
Mikkie found herself drawn to the unfamiliar environment she was now in. Despite her shy demeanor, her sister longed for love and attention. Gradually, as she settled into her new home, her purring served as a sign of her growing comfort and happiness. It was clear that Mikkie benefited from feeling secure and valued a predictable routine to boost her self-assurance.
Gradually, she began to open up to those around her. According to @comrescuemontreal, “She enjoys watching everything around her with curiosity. Building trust with her is key to hearing her content purrs. Now, she happily purrs during cuddle sessions, and even loves belly rubs,” Celine revealed. As she became more comfortable with her caregivers, her fun and playful personality started to shine through.
She thoroughly enjoys playtime and craves affection, as showcased by her Instagram handle @comrescuemontreal. “Adopting a more secure and affectionate lifestyle has truly made her thankful,” they share. The timid and uncertain kitten she once was has transformed into a self-assured and endearing young cat. She eagerly seeks out the love and care of her beloved humans, confidently asking for pets whenever she pleases.
