A Feral Feline’s Journey: From Street Savvy to House Cat Haven

Street Cat Approaches Neighbor Who Offers Him Food, He Decides He's Ready to Be a Pampered House Cat

One day, a stray cat wandered over to a kind neighbor who gave him some food. In that moment, the cat made up his mind that he was tired of living on the streets and was ready to become a beloved house pet.

Matoo the tabby cat was discovered roaming the streets of Montreal by a local resident named Yvon. It became apparent that Matoo didn’t have a permanent home, which tugged at Yvon’s heartstrings. Witnessing the cat’s declining health, Yvon decided to take action.

Filled with compassion, Yvon placed a bowl of food in front of Matoo, hoping that the hungry feline would accept the offering. The bond between Yvon and Matoo was formed through a simple act of kindness, marking the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

He was discovered strolling through the ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal neighborhood. The tabby initially approached him with caution, but once he caught a whiff of the food, he eagerly devoured it.

Over time, he grew fond of his human companion and started to feel at ease in his presence. Eventually, he started eagerly anticipating Yvon’s daily visits with his beloved pate.

He gladly accepted food from the person who saved him, showing gratitude by rolling around happily with a full belly. Slowly but surely, he started to enjoy being petted by Yvon, seemingly ready to transition into a pampered indoor cat. Yvon then decided to bring him indoors, taking care of his vet check-up and neutering procedure.

ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal shared a heartwarming story about a sweet cat who was in need of dental work and a permanent home. Celine Crom, a member of the organization, explained that they were contacted to assist with the cat’s medical needs. They took the cat in, gave him the name Matoo, and provided him with the necessary dental care. Matoo’s teeth and gums were in such poor condition that all of his teeth had to be extracted.

Matoo found his way off the street and into the care of ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal. Despite losing his teeth in a dental surgery, he is now pain-free and enjoying his meals like a pro, sometimes sticking out his little tongue. Upon arriving at his foster home, Matoo adapted quickly, seeming to fit right in as if he had been a part of the family all along.

Matoo is now toothless following his dental procedure, but he is relieved to finally be free of pain. He enjoys lounging on the couch and snuggling up with his foster mom, Jess, who gives him plenty of head scratches that make him ecstatic. Matoo happily rolls around on his back, seeking out belly rubs that he adores.

“He truly savors his fresh start and delights in being the reigning cat prince of the household.”

Matoo formed a close bond with his foster mom in no time. He would trail behind her wherever she went in the house, always ready for a cuddle session.
“He loves to stand up to receive affectionate hugs and kisses from his humans. With his constant purring and big, cuddly nature, he’s like a giant teddy bear. Matoo also enjoys keeping watch at the foot of the bed, making sure his loved ones are safe and sound.”

Matoo loves gazing out the window, observing the neighbors and squirrels with interest. The various scents that float in through the screen never fail to captivate him, and he can’t resist wiggling his nose in curiosity.
In the mornings, he likes to gently wake up his humans by placing his paw on their cheeks. When he wants attention or something specific, he’s not afraid to vocalize his needs.

Whenever he hears the tinkling of his beloved bell toy, he goes wild with joy. “He’s got some serious skills as a goalie too. Give him a ball and he’ll expertly block and return it to us.”
Without even realizing it, Matoo managed to charm his way into the hearts of his foster family.
