Four small kittens transitioned from wandering the streets to snuggling and seeking warmth in laps, and are now eagerly anticipating finding their forever homes.
A group of four tiny kittens were discovered alone and helpless by two kind-hearted individuals. With no sign of their mother, the kittens were brought to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington in Virginia to ensure they received the care and attention they deserved. Penny Richards, a dedicated foster volunteer, took the kittens into her home and immediately began nurturing them back to health.
At just three weeks old, the kittens were frail and malnourished, but their bond with each other remained strong as they leaned on one another for support during this challenging time.
Brook, the diluted tortoiseshell kitten, stayed awake while her foster mom watched over her siblings as they slept peacefully. Penny Richards, the foster mom, shared that the first night was challenging as the kittens didn’t know how to feed from the bottle and were too young for solid food.
“I made a mixture of wet food with milk for them to eat, and all four kittens eagerly dove into it. It was clear they were not used to this type of food yet, but they were too young for anything else,” Penny shared with Love Meow.
Snuggle time with the kittens
Penny sacrificed her sleep to ensure the kittens had a meal in their tummies. She believed that as long as they had something to eat that night, everything was alright.
After some hard work, the kittens eventually learned to drink from the bottle and started to get used to living comfortably indoors. They started gaining weight and were eating like little champions.
Bayou embraced her brother River tightly, showing the bond between the water-themed kittens. Penny Richards, their owner, shared that Bayou was always the bold and vocal one, especially when it came to meal times.
As the smallest of the litter, Beck required some extra help with eating until she grew strong enough to fend for herself. Her siblings, including River and Bayou, would surround her with love and comfort, seemingly cheering her on as she progressed.
Beck, the smallest kitten among the group, wasted no time in joining his siblings as they began to venture out and explore. Before long, all four kittens had gathered on Penny’s lap, one after another, seeking warmth and a cozy spot for a nap. Brook, the tortoiseshell kitten, particularly excelled in snuggling up on laps and making herself at ease around her human companions.
Brook settled comfortably in the cozy lap of her foster mom, Penny Richards.
“They just can’t resist climbing onto my lap as soon as I sit down. Bayou and Beck in particular love perching on my shoulder,” Penny affectionately shared with Love Meow.
Even when other foster kittens join in for some cuddle time, Bayou, Beck, and their friends don’t mind at all. “They love playing and chasing each other around, but at the end of the day, they always end up snuggled up together on my lap, the best of buddies.”
They love cuddling up on a cozy lap, Penny reflected on her furry companions. “Beck’s adorable face perfectly complements her sweet personality. She won’t stop meowing until I hold her, and then she starts purring loudly,” Penny affectionately described. “River stands out as the lone brother to three sisters. His belly is adorned with delicate white hairs, giving him a wise, old-man look.”
Beck and her sibling, RiverPenny Richards, are quite the vocal pair. Bayou, in particular, is the most outspoken of the two but also enjoys finding a cozy spot on someone’s lap. Both Bayou and Beck have a special way of lying down, known as ‘splooting,’ where they stretch out on their human’s legs during nap time.
Bayou, the cozy lap cat, Penny Richards describes how Brook loves to play with her siblings and roll around, flaunting her adorable belly. Penny mentions that Brook’s coat is absolutely beautiful, with a diluted orange color that gives her a very soft cream hue combined with grey. Penny also notes how Brook has taken on the role of her little supervisor, perching on her lap and observing her with great interest.
Brook loves helping out her foster mom, Penny Richards, and is always by her side, eager to lend a hand. Despite their rough start, the four siblings are doing well in their temporary home and are now looking for a forever family where they can enjoy endless cuddles on someone’s lap.
