Two adorable kittens at the shelter were patiently waiting for someone to give them a fresh start when a compassionate individual decided to bring them both home, turning their lives around completely.
Ginger and Brie, the adorable little kittens, found their way to a local shelter at just two weeks old. Small and delicate, they stuck together for warmth and security in the unfamiliar surroundings.
The shelter wasn’t the best place for these tiny felines, as they needed constant attention and were prone to falling ill. Desperate for a foster home, they waited anxiously for someone to step forward and offer them a safe haven.
Jen, a dedicated volunteer at Kitty of Angels, received a notification from the shelter volunteers and felt a strong urge to help. “I knew I had to take them in,” Jen recalled with Love Meow, eager to provide a loving environment for the two kittens.
Upon their arrival in foster care, the kittens came in with some sniffles and sneezes. Despite Cheddar having a crusty eye, he stayed in good spirits with his sister keeping him company. They were placed in a warm incubator with a soft heartbeat toy, which helped them feel at home quickly.
“Brie took to the bottle immediately. Cheddar was a bit unsure at first, but after a couple of feeds, he caught on.”

The little cat snuggled up to their stuffed companion, listening to its gentle heartbeat as they dozed off, only to wake up for their next delicious meal.
“I always keep a toothbrush close by when I take care of orphaned kittens. After each feeding, I gently brush them with the toothbrush, mimicking their mother’s grooming. This not only comforts them but also helps them learn how to groom themselves.”
When Jen lifted the lid of the incubator, Brie immediately perked up and started mewing for some love. Not long after, her sibling Cheddar chimed in, creating a cute little meowing symphony until they were fed their bottle.
While they happily slurped down their formula, their ears twitched with joy, and the only sound in the room was the gentle smacking of their satisfied sips.
Jen mentioned that Cheddar’s eyes were no longer cloudy and looked more alert. With good nourishment and care, Cheddar became more lively, squirming and hiding under the blankets. Jen recalled a moment when she couldn’t find Cheddar, only to discover him snuggled in a cozy spot. “Cheddar really knows how to enjoy his milk. Once he finishes his bottle, he simply drifts off right there. These two little ones bring so much happiness.”

Brie was known for being the more attention-seeking of the two, always reaching for her bottle before Cheddar had the chance. Despite this, Cheddar was content to wait his turn, showing remarkable patience. They were like two peas in a pod, always together except during feeding time – unless Brie made sure to include her brother by wrapping her arm around him.
During those rare moments when Cheddar got the bottle first, Brie would look around puzzled, wondering why she was left alone for just 30 seconds.
Jen marveled at Brie’s one-of-a-kind coloring, unable to pinpoint exactly what it was, but excited to watch it evolve. She described Brie as a darling little doll with a heartwarming demeanor. The cheese siblings flourished, growing quickly and were soon ready to move from their cozy incubator to a spacious playpen. There, they could develop their walking skills, strengthen their legs, and master the art of using the litter box.
Jen observed Brie as she explored her unfamiliar surroundings, with Cheddar sticking close to her side, seeking comfort from his pretend mother and seeking guidance from his sister. As soon as he realized he was free to roam, his true character started to emerge.
“I always enjoy seeing their initial reactions in a new environment, when they are trying to make sense of everything. These little ones seemed a bit startled, but also displayed great bravery.”
Jen describes Cheddar as a classic orange cat full of energy and affection. He goes all in on everything he does, whether it’s playing, purring, or cuddling. Jen notes that Cheddar purrs loudly, especially when he’s enjoying his meals.
On the other hand, Brie is portrayed as a gentle and angelic feline. She loves to snuggle up in Jen’s lap as soon as she sits down, and then she’ll climb onto her shoulder or back. Jen mentions that Brie would be over the moon if she could spend all day sitting on her shoulder, playing with her hair.
Jen is now finding that the kittens she is fostering absolutely adore cuddling up in her lap, constantly vying for her affection and those coveted belly rubs. Whenever she’s in their pen, they love treating her like their own personal climbing frame, playfully wrestling and snuggling by her side, relishing in every precious moment of their young lives.
