Just three weeks before the start of the New Year, a beautiful torbie cat found herself in a desperate situation at an animal shelter. She was pregnant and in urgent need of rescue. Luckily, a caring volunteer decided to take her in temporarily until a rescue group could assist.
The kind-hearted team at Best Friends Felines (BFF), a cat rescue based in Brisbane, AU, offered their support without hesitation. They quickly found a loving caretaker for the pregnant cat and ensured she was settled in her new home by the following Sunday.
“We all believed she still had about two weeks left before giving birth. Imagine our surprise when her caretaker returned from work on Monday to discover she had already delivered her kittens,” BFF happily shared.
The day after being taken in by the kind folks at Best Friends Felines, she welcomed her litter of kittens into the world. Although they did everything they could to help them all, one of the kittens didn’t make it. However, the remaining kittens started to show improvement.
The kittens received treatment for a stomach ailment, but their mother, Tallulah, required more attention than expected. It was evident that Tallulah had become weak shortly after giving birth and was unable to care for her babies.
Tallulah required more assistance than initially expected, as stated by bestfriendsfelines. She asked a volunteer to care for her litter while she sought medical treatment for herself. “She wasn’t eating properly and was neglecting the babies’ hygiene, so we had to step in and help out.”
Tallulah had to be hospitalized for a serious infection in her abdomen, necessitating surgery. Meanwhile, her kittens were diligently bottle-fed by a committed caregiver while she was at the vet.
The kittens received round-the-clock care from a devoted caregiver while Tallulah was hospitalized. Elke, a dedicated volunteer, stepped in to ensure the kittens were fed every 2-3 hours. She sacrificed sleep to ensure the kittens were well-fed and had a cozy place to rest in.
After her surgery, Tallulah was finally able to reunite with her kittens. Despite being frail and exhausted from her ordeal, the question of whether she would be better off without her kittens arose. However, it was clear that the kittens thrived better with their mother by their side.
After Tallulah returned from her surgery, she was happily reunited with her kittens at bestfriendsfelines. The caretakers decided to give Tallulah the freedom to choose and promised to support her no matter what. Despite being thrilled to see her babies, it was evident that Tallulah had no milk to feed them.
Nevertheless, Tallulah wasted no time in caring for her kittens, lavishing them with affectionate hugs and kisses. She diligently cleaned each one of them before eventually drifting off to sleep with her little ones nestled in her embrace.
Upon their arrival, the mama cat wasted no time in cuddling up with her babies, showering them with love and attention. Elke, the caregiver, played an active role in assisting the mama cat in nurturing her little ones. She made sure to feed the hungry kittens while the mama cat took care of grooming and cuddling duties.
As the days went by, Tallulah, the mama cat, woke up feeling rejuvenated and full of energy. Her milk production also began to increase, allowing her to successfully nurse her three kittens on her own. This marked a heartwarming and joyful moment for all involved.
The trio is doing well, and Mama Tallulah is on the road to recovery according to Best Friends Felines. “She’s really thriving now. She’s in good spirits, enjoying life, and eating like a champ,” BFF mentioned. “Her adorable babies are gaining weight and becoming more adorable with each passing day.”
Tallulah is starting to regain her strength and appetite, filling out nicely. She’s delighted to see her kittens growing and becoming more active, attempting to walk and play around.
Tadan from Best Friends Felines shares that there is a lot of work happening behind the scenes at BFF, especially during kitten season. Fortunately, they have a fantastic team that supports each other during busy times like this.
The mother cat affectionately cares for her adorable kittens, comforted by the fact that there are caring individuals tending to her needs and ensuring the little ones will have a bright future ahead.
